Day 1:    Arrive Accra

Arrive in Accra, Ghana. You will be met by a Sunset African Tours representative and transferred to your hotel for check in. Overnight in Accra.

Day 2:    Accra city Tour

Start with a drive through the colonial part of Accra, known as Jamestown. View the numerous colonial buildings which were mostly inhabited by the British in the early 1600’s, now home to the local people called the Gas. Drive through the main street and view the Ussher and James Forts built by the Dutch (1650) and British (1673) respectively and also the Lighthouse which was used to guide ships to the Accra Harbour in colonial days. Visit the colourful Makola Market, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Museum, the craftsmen at Teshie who make fascinating coffins in the shape of vegetables, fruits, cars, aircrafts, etc. Finally pick up some unique crafts at the Arts and Crafts market. Overnight in Accra. (B)

Day 3:    Cape Coast & Elmina Castle

Depart Accra to the coastal city of Cape Coast, Central Region. Visit the Cape Coast Castle built in 1667 by the Swedes and later taken over by the British. This was used during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade as a holding point for captives. Visit the West African Historical Museum. The guide will conduct you to the slave quarters and the Negotiation Hall where captives were bargained for and sold. Later, take a tour of the Elmina Castle, the oldest and largest European monument in Ghana built in 1484 by the Portuguese. After this tour, take a short walk around the colourful fishing harbour to see the fish market and traditional dugout canoes the local people use for their livelihoods. Both the Elmina and Cape Coast Castles have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Overnight at a beach resort (B)

Day 4:    Kakum National Park – Free afternoon

Today drive to the north of Cape Coast to visit Kakum National Park, a tropical rainforest in the heart of the Attandaso reserve for an adventurous and breathtaking walk on the ‘Canopy Walkway’. It is composed of 350 meters of suspended bridge and six platforms at a height of 60 meters off the ground. Return to your hotel and relax at the beach front. Overnight beach resort. (B)

Day 5, 6 & 7:    Three (3) free days @ a Beach Resort

Spend the next three days relaxing at the private beach of your hotel. Overnight at a beach resort (B)

Day 8:    Departure

Check out at midday and take a return trip to the Kotoka International Airport for check in and depart on a late night flight back home (B)
