Leave Accra for the coastal city of Cape Coast in the Central Region. Upon arrival, visit the Cape Coast Castle built in 1667 by the Swedes and later taken over by the British. This was used during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade as a holding point for captives. Visit the West African Historical Museum. The guide will conduct you to the slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where captives were bargained for and sold. After lunch, take a tour of the Elmina Castle, the oldest and largest European monument in Ghana built in 1482 by the Portuguese. Cape Coast and Elmina Castle are both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Late afternoon, return to Accra. (L)
