At Sunset African Tours we take advantage of the proximity of Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast to Ghana to offer multiple destination tour packages. Lome, Togo’s capital is three (3) hours drive from Accra and Cotonou, capital of Benin, is another two and a half (2 1/2) hours drive from Lome. Abidjan, capital of Ivory Coast is an hour’s flight from Accra and if you love road trips, you will certainly enjoy the 10hr scenic drive to Abidjan. We however make an overnight stop to make the journey easy.

So we can combine tours to Ghana with Togo, Benin or Ivory Coast for those who want to experience and enjoy the amazing sites, culture, history and people of all four (4) countries.

Ghana & Ivory Coast | 9 nights/10 days

This journey gives you an opportunity to experience the culture and history of two countries in West Africa i.e. Ghana and Ivory Coast. The tour takes you through the commercial capital Abidjan, through to political capital Yamoussoukro and her surrounding villages to the former colonial capital Grand Bassam located at the coast. An hour’s flight from Abidjan brings you to Accra, the capital of Ghana. A drive through the forest belt takes you to Kumasi, capital of the former great Ashanti Empire, where we will have a rare chance to see the Ashanti King sitting in state during the Akwasidae festival. A wonderful opportunity to interact with the locals. We travel through to the coast to visit old historical slave dungeons in Cape Coast and Elmina, an exciting walk up a canopy 100ft above the forest ground at Kakum National Park. Our tour ends back in Accra where you will explore the early European settlements of the 100 year old city where modernity fuses with the British colonial section and finally practice our bargaining skills in Accra’s arts and crafts market as you purchase souvenirs for family and friends before you get on to your homebound flight

    Ivory Coast | 3 nights/4 days (Drive Option)

    If you love road trips then this tour offers you just that. The tour takes you from Accra through the coastal towns of Central and Western Region of Ghana and to the international border between Ghana and Ivory Coast. We will then cross into the Eastern side of Ivory Coast and continue on the coast through Grand Bassam, the colonial French capital and to Abidjan, capital of Ivory Coast. A day’s trip to Yamoussoukro to visit our Lady of Peace Cathedral and return to Abidjan to enjoy the city’s very vibrant nights’ at one of the famous open air bars. Our final day will be in Abidjan, pick up souvenirs and then take a long road trip back to Accra.

      Ivory Coast | 2 nights/3 days (Fly Option)

      This three day getaway gives you the opportunity to visit the three very important cities in Ivory Coast i.e. the economical capital Abidjan, a city of very modern architecture, Yamoussoukro, a relatively small town but serves as the political capital and home to the largest cathedral and finally Grand Bassam the old colonial capital and her numerous beach resorts.

        Ghana, Togo & Benin | Ancient Kingdoms of West Africa | 13 nights/14 days

        This journey brings you close to some indigenous tribes in rural settlements that have stuck to their traditional ways of doing things. We start from Accra, Ghana’s capital inhabited by the Ga tribe, through to the Central Region and visit a Posuban Military Shrine where the Asafo companies (Fanti Traditional soldiers) prepare spiritually for war. We then travel north through the forest belt to Kumasi, capital of the once very powerful Ashanti Empire, continue to Techiman, where history says the Akans first settled after the fall of the Ghana Empire. In the wooded grasslands of northern Ghana we will travel through Tamale, Bolgatanga and Sirigu; a town with unique colourful and abstract paintings on their mud houses

        Cross over into the northern part of Togo to Bassar, originally known for iron making, and to Sokode to witness men dance on hot flaming charcoal. Cross a second border ie the Togo-Benin into Benin, and into the lands of the Taberma and Somba people, who built their fortress-like homes very close to each other in the 18th century to protect themselves. You will also come across the very isolated Taneka tribe on a cliff top with round and cone-like roof homes. Travel south to the royal palaces of Abomey, capital of the former powerful Dahomey Empire. As you continue the journey southwards, you will begin to notice a strong presence of the Voodoo religion until you arrive in Ouidah, Benin’s capital of the Voodoo religion. You will get a firsthand experience of a Voodoo ceremony and witness Zangbeto, a spiritual masks dance. Experience an intriguing hotel night in Ganvie, a village of 18,000 people in the middle of Lake Nokoue.

        Again cross the Benin-Togo border over to the south of Togo and to the fetish market where you will find the most bizarre ingredients for magic potions. Our adventure finally ends back in Accra.

          Ghana, Togo & Benin | Cultural Encounter | 11 nights/12 days

          This journey gives you an opportunity to experience the culture and history of three countries in West Africa i.e. Ghana, Togo and Benin, where traditions and beliefs have been preserved for centuries. We start and end our journey in Accra, the capital of Ghana, the only English speaking country amongst the three. Tour Accra which includes a visit to the craftsmen who make caskets in shapes usually depicting the profession of the deceased, then to Cape Coast/Elmina where you will learn about European strongholds used in the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, Kumasi, a vibrant commercial city where you will find Kejetia market, the largest open market in West Africa and to Obo for an Akan naming ceremony.

          Travel to Lome, Togo’s capital that is a haven for African fabrics, the Voodoo market where you will find the most bizarre ingredients for magic potions. You will go on to Benin’s capital of the Voodoo religion, Ouidah, and the royal palaces at Abomey, capital of the former powerful Dahomey Empire. You will then take a boat ride to Ganvie, a village of 18,000 people in the middle of Lake Nokoue.

          Our journey finally ends in Accra.

            Ouidah Voodoo Festival 2022 | Benin, Togo & Ghana | Jan 8 – 21, 2022

            In 1996, the government of Benin declared January 10, National Voodoo Day. Voodoo is practiced by 60% of the population and on this day, followers of the various voodoo cults gather at the ‘Door of No Return’ in Ouidah, the capital of the Voodoo religion.

            Our journey starts from the capital of Benin, Cotonou. Visit Abomey, capital of the once powerful Dahomey Empire in Benin and the highlight of the tour is when we experience Voodoo in Allada and Ouidah where activities climaxes all others and finally Egungun dance ceremony a day after the festival in Ouidah. (Masked dancers supposed to represent the dead in the society)

            Then fly into Lome and take a tour of Togo’s capital. Our adventure takes us up north to Sokode where we will witness the fire dance and then drive to the border town of Kpalime. Continue to catch your regional flight in Lome to Accra.

            In Accra explore this 100 year old city and continue to Kumasi, capital of the old Ashanti Empire. You will travel to the Central Region towns of Cape Coast and Elmina at the coast to visit old historical European strongholds and an adventurous walk up a canopy 60 metres above the forest ground at Kakum National Park.
